Goulburn-Murray Water’s Project Manager Jarrod O’Brien hosted a double site inspection for GMW’s two largest 2018 Winter Works Projects on the Waranga Western Channel near Rochester.

The first site was Bull’s Siphon, a new four barrel x 3m diameter and approximately 60m long structure replacing the original siphon constructed when the Waranga Western Channel was constructed over 100 years ago. The replacement structure was being constructed by GMW’s Field Services team along with support from local contractors to lay the 3m diameter pipes, install reinforcement, pour concrete and backfill the pipes. The works are scheduled to be delivered in a construction window between 15 May and 15 August which has required a six day per week effort.

The second site was the Campaspe Siphon.  The works at the site are involving the lining of the siphon which goes under the Campaspe River to increase its design life.  Contractor Downer-ITS Pipetech was awarded the contract to perform the relining using a steel shutter system to form the steel fibre reinforcement concrete lining.  Attendees were able to inspect the works inside the siphon and as a result, can say they have been under the Campaspe River and didn’t get wet.
