Michael MacDonagh, Team Leader Strategic Planning, Greater Shepparton City Council provided an overview of the residential growth corridors for Shepparton. Topics covered included the recent introduction of the Urban Growth Zone to the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme through the identification of a future strategic residential growth corridor in Kialla, the important of master planning future residential growth corridors, and the preparation and implementation of Precinct Structure Plans and Development Contribution Plans for several key residential expansion areas in Shepparton, Mooroopna and Kialla.
Michael spoke about the number of challenges Council has faced in the preparation of the master plans including flooding impacts, drainage and the increasing cost of infrastructure. Throughout the presentation, Michael described the ways in which Council is proposing to overcome these challenges to ensure that development costings are fair for all, and will result in good urban design outcomes.
