Event Details
On the face of it, the Solomon Islands and Australia don’t have a lot in common.
One is a nation made up by 992 small islands, atolls and reefs – the 166th largest country in the world – the other is a nation of 25.69 million occupying a land mass where there are only nine people living in every square mile (in the Solomon Islands that figure is 69 people per square mile).
When it comes to the water business, however, there are some very clear similarities between Goulburn Valley Water and Solomon Water – the two corporations that were paired up courtesy of the Partnerships for a Resilient Climate Smart Water Sector program.
GVW’s partnership with Solomon Water is just one of six such international partnerships facilitated by AWA’s International Development Program, funded by the Australian Water Partnership (AWP), as part of the Partnerships for a Resilient and Climate Smart Water Sector Program.
There were three major objectives for the partnership, find solutions to rising sea levels, reduce water loss from the water system in the capital (Honiara) and strengthen the meter-to-cash process.
With the Partnership officially wrapping up in June 2024, GVW will present on how the partnership was rolled out and the benefits outcomes for both Solomons and Goulburn Valley Water.
