Event Details
The Spring 2022 Floods of Northern Victoria significantly impacted the Goulburn Valley and downstream communities. Flooding was widespread, inundating areas of the floodplain and even towns which hadn’t been flooded for decades, temporarily displacing residents and impacting essential services infrastructure while providing some benefits for the environment.
Meanwhile, rural water, urban water and evironmental assets in the region continued to be operated, while being monitored to mitigate asset damage and potential for negative downstream impacts. As operators responsible for these assets, join representatives from Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW), Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA) as they present their experiences from the floods as follows:
- John Weber, GMW Flood Recovery Manager, presenting ‘GMW Flood Recovery through Systems, Data, Processes & People’ – an overview of how GMW utilised Systems, Data, Processes & People in the management of its Flood Recovery activities to identify, assess, validate and where required prioritise the reinstatement of assets to ensure its delivery system was available for service as soon as possible.
- Elise O’Keefe, GVW Central O&M District Manager, presenting ‘Supplying safe reliable water in a flood’.
- Joel Leister, GBCMA Floodplain team representive presenting ‘What happened during the 2022 floods and how do they compare to past flood events’
