The Tatura Water Treatment Plant (WTP) services a population of approximately 4,000 people and several major industrial customers.
Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) prepared a master plan for the future 20 year development of the water treatment plant and treated water storages in 2006. It identified that staged augmentation of the existing treated water storage and plant production capacity would be required in the future to meet increasing customer demand. The Master plan proposed that the plant capacity be increased from the current 12 ML/day to 18 ML/day with a new Dissolved Air Flotation and Filtration (DAFF) plant similar to the existing plant.
Peak day demand in Tatura during January 2014 was similar to the existing plant capacity. Any increase in industrial peak day demands above that experienced would exceed the WTP capacity.
GVW immediately commenced and completed the functional design to enable the project to be brought forward if industrial customers require additional capacity for growth.
The functional design confirmed that the upgrade would involve the construction of an additional new DAFF Plant with a capacity of 12ML/day.
A future total plant capacity of 18ML/day was be provided from a combination of the existing plant (current 12ML/day plant to continue to produce a minimum of 6ML/day) and the new plant (12ML/day).
After a tender process (Design and Construct) in 2017 Laurie Curran Water Ltd were engaged to complete the Tatura Water Treatment Plant Upgrade that generally comprises the new Raw Water Pump Station No.2, the new DAFF Water Treatment Plant No.2 (WTP No.2), and the new Chlorination Building and dosing plant and associated connecting works and interface works.
